Sunway Lagoon and RFID

    assalamualaikum and hi to all.
so today i want to share and explain a little bit about some  technology that i have been
    experienced last week.
ok, last weekend, on 11 May 2013, i got the chance to visits one of Malaysia biggest theme
park which is Sunway lagoon theme park.
this theme park located at Petaling Jaya, Malaysia.

(source : Googlemaps)

so, i spent the whole day from 10a.m till 6p.m there and believe me, the park was so awesome.
but the thing is, i posting this not to explain bout the park, but more bout the technology or system that been use there especially on the ticketing or entry system.

(the largest waterslide in the world-vuvuzela (as been claimed by Sunway Lagoon)

so, the entry fee is RM120 for adult and RM90 for child (without Mykad), RM90 for adult and RM60 for child (with Mykad).
Sunway Lagoon is differ from other theme park that give you the ticket and you will receive regular waterproof paper wristband.
but for Sunway Lagoon, you will receive a watch-look wristband that you will wear like watch.

(Sunway Lagoon watch-look like wristband)

at first i just thought that this wristband just a wristband that act as ticket for me.
but i am wrong.
this watch-look wristband has some chip or system that installed inside it to enable the visitor to tap at certain receiver for certain thing.
for example, when i want to rent a locker to store my bag, i though i will receive the locker key,
but instead of using the key, visitor can use the wrist band to open the locker.
i just need to tap the wrist band to the receiver like touch n go, and the locker door will open.
awesome right?
instead of just give the visitor some wristband as the proof of payment, they make it multi-use.
and beside just using it for locker system use, i try to "Google" some other use of this wristband.
i found that, according to http://hazelleshoppe.blogspot.com, she said that,

"i like the e-wallet system that they have been implemented, whereby instead of a paper wristband, they now give you a watch (not real one) to wear on your wrist. you can load cash into it (digitally) and use that to purchase food and stuff"

so,  awesome right? instead just for locker use, the wristband also can act as e-wallet system.
so after back from the theme park  i keep thinking about the system that been use since i notice that at the wristband earlier, it has "RCG" letter there. so what was it actually?

(the RCG mark on the wristband)

and again i "Google" ing since this is the main source of student like me to know something (hehehe).
and i found out that,

"Sunway Lagoon has deployed an RFID-based payment system based on waterproof wristbands. RCG, a Hong Kong-based developer and systems integrator of RFID and biometric solutions for payments and security applications, developed and installed the payment system at the resort earlier this year. Upon arrival, visitors are issued RFID-enabled wristbands. As visitors enter Sunway's ticket office, they can select which level of access and amenities they'd prefer. For instance, a family might select to visit only the wildlife park, or both the wildlife and water theme parks, or they could choose an all-access pass to every part of the resort. Each visitor is issued a wristband embedded with a high-frequency RFID inlay containing a Mifare ISO 14443-compliant integrated circuit from NXP Semiconductors. Encoded to this inlay is an ID number, also stored in a central database. Associated with that identifier in the database is a list of resort areas the visitor has paid to access. To enter an area, a visitor holds the wristband within a few inches of an interrogator mounted on a turnstile at that particular entrance. The reader sends the tag ID to a central database, and if the visitor is authorized to enter, the turnstile opens. "

so now i remembered that i have seen and heard this RFID before in my MIS750 class.
so Sunway Lagoon also use this kind of technology to make their operation more efficient.
this system is like touch n go system where we touch the chip to the receiver to open or to launch something.
so what the meaning of RFID actually?
according to Wikipedia.org,

"Radio-frequency identification (RFID) is the wireless non-contact use of radio-frequency electromagnetic fields to transfer data, for the purposes of automatically identifying and tracking tags attached to objects."

so, this kind of technology make things more easy with just a single tap or touch.
this kind of technology or system will bring easiness and good if it can be implemented in the UiTM system.
especially for student purpose.
imagine, instead of signing attendance sheet, student just need to tap out their matrix card and the system will take the attendance or any transaction that been done.
it can save time, maybe cost in the long term and reduce any cheating or fraudent by the students.
right now, such system just can be seen at library where student just tap the matrix card to borrow the books
and maybe for staff, this system has been widely implemented.

so that's all for this post.
i will share more about any technology or IT and IS that i use later in the next post.
hope this kind of technology and other advanced technology can be implement here in Malaysia for a better nation. (chewaaaahhhh).

p/s : Sunway lagoon is 10 times better than Genting Highland.
